Émile Gallé, a French artist and designer, was one of the foremost masters of decorative glass in the nineteenth century. Cameo glass is considered a luxurious art form, produced by engraving and etching through fused layers of coloured glass to reveal intricate designs. The technique has its origins in Roman artistry, first seen around 30 BCE.
